    1. When are taxes due and delinquent?
      Taxes for both real estate and personal property are due by December 31st.
      First half is delinquent the following May 1st.
      Second half is delinquent the following September 1st.
      14% statutory rate is charged on delinquencies.

      They are mailed between late November and December.
    3. What should I do if I didn’t receive a tax notice?

      Yes, but we charge 2.49% credit card or $2.95 debit card.
    8. What do I do if I have a message on my tax statement that I don’t understand?

    9. When can I renew my driver’s license?
      You may renew your expiring Nebraska license within 90 days (not three months) prior to the expiration date. If you move to a new address, you should update your Nebraska license within 60 days.
    10. Are there practice tests for operator’s licenses?
      The DMV offers an interactive DMV Written Exam and a downloadable AAA Sample Test as a study guide not only to prepare you for the written test but also serve as an excellent resource to keep up with the Nebraska rules of the road.

    11. What are driver’s license renewal procedures?
      For regular license renewals, you would follow in-state renewal procedures. If you are out of state during your license renewal period, you can renew by mail by following the out-of-state renewal procedures. If you are active-duty military, follow the military renewal procedures. If you will be out of the state during your regular renewal period, you may be able to go to a driver’s licensing office and do an early renewal.

    12. What if my driver’s license or ID card gets lost or stolen?
      If your driver’s license or ID card has been lost or stolen, you may apply for a duplicate whether you are in state or out of state. Click here.
    13. How can I change my name or address on my driver’s license?
      If your name or address changes, you must apply for a driver’s license change. Name changes must be made in person. Address changes can be done online. Click here.
    14. How can I get a copy of my driver record?
      record of driving-related activity is available for your use. If you are applying for a driver’s license in another state they may need verification of your Nebraska driving privileges in the form of a clearance letter.
    15. What if I didn’t receive my driver’s license in the mail?
      You may check the mailing status of your document. Please allow ten (10) days from the mailing date to receive your new document. If you do not receive your permanent document within five (5) days of expiration of your receipt, please call 402-471-3861 for assistance. The U.S. Postal Service will not forward it to another address.

    Property Tax Payments

    When are real property taxes due?

    Real property taxes are due December 31. The first half of the tax becomes delinquent on the following May 1 and the second half becomes delinquent on September 1.

    When are personal property taxes due?

    Personal property taxes are due December 31. The first half of the tax becomes delinquent on the following May 1 and the second half becomes delinquent on September 1.

    On the due date, the taxes become a first lien on all personal property you own. If the taxes are not paid, any personal property you own, whether taxable or not, is subject to seizure in order to satisfy the lien.

      Title Information

      Items Required for Issuance of a Nebraska Title

      • Vehicles 20 years old or newer need an odometer reading; if marked “exempt,” you cannot go back and add the odometer reading to the next title issued.

      NOTE: If an odometer statement is on the title, you must fill out that statement on the title because we do not accept a separate statement.

      Out-of-State Title Inspection
      Before a Nebraska title can be issued on a vehicle with an out-of-state title, the vehicle and title must be inspected at the Platte County Sheriff’s Office to verify the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

      NOTE: There is a $10.00 inspection fee.

      FAQs

      Does Nebraska require a notary to transfer a title?
      No, not since July 16, 1994.

      My title reads “or/and or.” Do both of us have to sign off the title?
      Yes, Nebraska requires signatures of ALL owners to transfer ownership.

      Do I need to change my title when I move from one county in Nebraska to another?
      No, Nebraska titles are valid in any county in the state.

      I have paid off my vehicle and the bank has sent me the title. Do I need to do anything with the County Treasurer’s Office?
      Yes, the original title must be brought in (or mailed) to the County Treasurer’s Office for release. The title can be taken to any county treasurer’s office in the state. There is no fee for this release.

      I have signed off a title on the wrong line. Can I cross it out and sign on the correct line?
      No, erasures or alterations VOID Nebraska titles. A duplicate title will need to be issued.

      Can I get a duplicate title from another county?
      Yes, a duplicate can be issued in any county as of January 1, 2003. 

      What vehicles need a federal odometer statement?
      Vehicles that are 20 years or newer.

      My vehicle has an out-of-state title. Does it need to be inspected in order for me to register it?
      Yes, any vehicles with an out-of-state title must be inspected before titling in Nebraska.

      My vehicle is in another state and needs a VIN inspection.

      Yes, the Sheriff’s Office entrance is on 27th Avenue and 14th Street.

      I have a lien on my out-of-state title. How can I register my vehicle?
      Stop by the County Treasurer’s Office for a request form. We will need the name, address, and phone number of the lien holder, plus your account and social security numbers, year, make, and model of your vehicle. We will call the lien holder for the original title and security agreement. Upon receipt of title/security agreement. we will phone or send you a card telling you that the vehicle needs to be inspected, title will be issued (original sent back to lien holder), and licensing copy will be ready for you to obtain for licensing/plating your vehicle.

      There will be a $17.00 title/lien notation fee.

      Can my lien holder fax a copy of my title to issue the new Nebraska title?
      No, we need original documents to issue a new Nebraska title.

      I am moving in from another state, so what do I need to obtain Nebraska plates? (Resident)
      We need the original out-of-state title, proof of insurance, registration from the state transferring, and the vehicle inspection certificate.

      Do I need a title for an ATV or minibike?
      A certificate of title is required for all ATVs and minibikes sold new after January 1, 2004. ATVs and minibikes purchased prior to January 1, 2004 may be issued a certificate of title at the request of the owner with the presentation of the appropriate documentation to the County Treasurer’s Office.

      Certificates of title issued for ATVs and minibikes are intended as proof of ownership only and will contain the statement, “Not to Be Registered For Road Use.”

      ATVs and minibikes are off-road vehicles. They are not registered and are restricted to off-road use on private property.

      Can I pay for title and plates with my Visa or MasterCard?
      Yes, but we charge 2.49% for credit card charges or $2.95 for debit card charges on the total for using this service.

      Are the vehicle inspection and Treasurer’s Office open the same hours?
      Change to titles will not be issued after 4:45 p.m.
