Platte County has 85,437 acres of floodplain, which is over 19% of the total acreage of the county.  Platte County participates in floodplain management programs through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). It is the responsibility of the floodplain administrator to review all applications for development in a floodplain or floodway area. If all federal requirements in Title 44 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Chapter 1, Part 60.3(d) are met, a permit may be granted by the floodplain administrator.

Development means any man-made change to improved or unimproved real estate, including but not limited to the construction, reconstruction, renovation, repair, expansion, or alteration of buildings or other structures; the placement of manufactured homes; streets and other paving; utilities; filling, grading, and excavation; mining; dredging; drilling operations; storage of equipment or materials; or obstructions.

To determine if your property is in a floodplain or floodway, contact the floodplain administrator. Floodplain maps are available at the Platte County Courthouse in the Highway Department Office, from the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources at dnr.nebraska.gov/floodplain, or from FEMA at fema.gov/flood-maps.
