    Marriage Licenses

    Prior to the solemnization of any marriage, a license shall be obtained from a County Clerk in the state of Nebraska.

    Marriage licenses are issued Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

    Marriage licenses may only be used for ceremonies performed in the state of Nebraska and are valid for one year from the date of issuance.

    Application

    When applying for a marriage license, both parties must be present and provide the following:

    • A valid driver’s license, state-issued photo I.D., or passport
    • Social Security information for bride and groom
      • If you do not have a Social Security number, an affidavit must be signed before the Administering Officer.
    • If either party has been previously married, copies of the divorce decree
    • Full legal name
    • Birthplace
    • Parents’ full legal name (including mother’s maiden name)
    • Parents’ birthplace (city and state or foreign country)

    Fee

    The cost of a marriage license is $25.00, and certified copies are $9.00 each. A certified copy is required for name changes and other legal documents.

    Payments can be made with either cash or check.

    The minimum legal age to marry without parental consent is 19. If either applicant is 17 or 18, they may marry with the consent of a parent or guardian.

    Requesting a Copy of a Marriage License

    Please provide the name of the bride (including maiden name) and groom as well as the date of the marriage. License must have been issued from Platte County.

    Liquor Licenses

    New Liquor License

    To apply for a liquor license, you must first contact the Nebraska Liquor Commission.

    If the license is for an establishment outside of any city or village, your application will be forwarded to Platte County for processing. A public hearing will be scheduled with the Platte County Board of Supervisors. If the board approves the application, a license will be issued from the Nebraska Liquor Commission.

    Renewals

    Liquor licenses must be renewed annually. Please contact the Nebraska Liquor Commission for more information.

    Special Designated License (SDLs)

    Please initiate your request with the Nebraska Liquor Commission.

    County Fees

    County fees will be paid by debit or credit card through the Nebraska Liquor Commission portal.

      Tobacco Licenses

      Platte County issues tobacco licenses only for establishments located outside of incorporated limits of any city, town, or village.

      Renewal

      Tobacco licenses are valid for the calendar year beginning January 1 through December 31.

      The fee for a tobacco license is $10.00. Checks can be made out to the Platte County Clerk’s office. 

        Valuation Protests

        Who may file?

        Any property owner may protest the assessed valuation of any real or personal property.

        When and Where to File

        Form 422, when completed, must be filed with the County Board of Equalization at the Office of the County Clerk.

        Real Property

        Protests must be filed on or before June 30. The requested valuation of the property must be stated along with the basis for the request. Failure to state the reasons for the requested valuation shall be grounds for dismissal of the protest.

        The legal description of the property and the value of the land and buildings must be included.

        Personal Property

        Protests must be filed on or before May 1. The taxpayer may provide a copy of the most recent federal depreciation worksheet or any other supporting documents as evidence of the requested change in value. If additional space is needed, attach additional sheets to each copy of Form 422.

        Form 422 may also be used when the county assessor notifies a taxpayer of an additional assessment, the failure to file a personal property return, or the imposition of a penalty. The taxpayer has 30 days from the date the notification was mailed to protest the action of the assessor.

        Hearing Procedure

        The person protesting the assessed valuation will be notified by the county clerk of the place and time for the hearing on the protest. At this hearing, evidence may be submitted and witnesses may be presented. Within seven days after the final decision, the clerk shall notify the protester of the action taken by the board.

        Appeals may be taken to the Tax Equalization and Review Commission within 30 days after adjournment of the County Board of Equalization. For protests acted upon during the board’s June 1 to July 25 equalization session, adjournment is deemed to be July 25th.

        Signature – The protest must be signed and dated.

        Military Discharge Records are filed in the County Clerk’s office. These records are not public information. An individual can only obtain his/her discharge information.
